The Boon Tea Room @ THE SPACE 7 South Mall

Having finally recovered from the flash floods and icy weather now synonomous with a Cork Christmas & New Years, The Space has once again opened it's doors on the top floor of 7 South Mall with a new exhibition and would like to begin by extending an open invitation to the public and a huge thank you to everyone who attended the launch party for this month's Space project: The Boon Tea Room.

We received an overwhelming response to this January's open call and would like to thank all applicants for their interest and support in the show.

The concept for the Boon is to transform The Space into an informal art cafe / art shop which operates mainly as a meeting point, performance space and forum for creative discussion and collaboration. The featured artists, collectives, poets and projects programmed for the month will act as a catalyst for this environment.

The Launch night featured battery operated trad experiment The Shmell, Corks finest guerrilla open mic regulars and a live acoustic set by Seamus O' Connor against a backdrop of snugs, chats and tea.

The show will be open to the public from Tuesday to Saturday between 11.30am and 5.30pm until the 30th of January and will host a series of events including, film screenings, artists talks, workshops, performances, poetry and much more. Details will be announced soon but join the mailing list above and check the blog regularly for details and updates on month's line-up.

The Space would also like to extend its open submissions for the month to all artists, poets, writers or creative practioners who would like to become involved with the experience. Please forward proposals to corkcontemporaryprojects@gmail.com

Resident Moniker DJ, Slev will be spinning unusually...wait for it, a chill out and ambient set, definitely not to be missed.

Moniker are proud to announce their upcoming birthday bash- and you're invited! Indeed we've made it somehow through a year of gigs and somewhere in the middle managed to open up a new artist led Space in cork city centre so to celebrate a year in business as Cork's best [and possibly only] regular art & music night we're opening our doors at a new venue -THE VINEYARD [formerly Slainte on patrick st]

As well as acting as the after party for the opening of new solo show at The Space gallery by Andrew Salomone, December Moniker will also be final farewell party for resident DJ, CCP member and all round ledgend Paul Harrington as he's off to Canadia for the New Year.

This month Moniker is a straight up electro affair with DJs SLEV DJ'ENERATE LAWN CHAIR MAFIA Featured artists include installations by Eveleen Murphy and videoworks by Maire O Mahony which will preview at the start of the night so come early to catch the show.

So there it is: installations, videoworks, visuals, a birthday, a fare well and good dose of electro- and all at the reduced price of €5! Thanks once more to everyone whos been supporting Moniker throughout the year, your keeping Moniker and the gallery alive! And to all with good intentions who still haven't been .........

This month Moniker brings you a heavy dose of electro tonic for your listening pleasure and foot moving action.

First up is the long overdue debut of Lawn Chair Mafia playing some heavy bass electro. Next up is 'The Peoples favourite' Vanilla Rice playing 80's electro. Finishing off the night you have Moniker residents Slev and Dj'enerate doing what they do best....playin' bangin tunes.

Yes that's right, after a summer of festivals and madness, including
Slev finally setting fire to that Big Bastard Tape Player at Feile,
we’ve finally got it together to put on a party of our own again.

This Moniker Re-Launch, signals a big day for our arts collective Cork Contemporary Projects as we've nailed down a site for new gallery in the city centre.

CCP will be doing their thing on top of No. 7 South Mall for the next year or so and want to use The Space to provide a platform for emerging and established creatives: artists, designers,
DJs and VJs.

All are welcome to the offical opening 'Chalk it Down' an exhibition
of contemporary drawing. 

Artist Amanda Rice will feature an installation in the club from her recent
performance / exhibition: At your Service.

Open Submission for Artwork and Visuals

Moniker are also holding open submissions for upcoming gigs with Paddy's Day shaping up to be an absolute blowout party from 6pm 'til 2am!

All submissions are welcome including artworks and visuals.

Moniker are a Cork based arts collective who combine visual art, music and installations and
have started a monthly Art and Music night in Cork city at The Infirmary Bar [side of the
Mardyke] with large scale installations and live DJ and VJ sets to provide a fun, quirky
alternative to the hum drum club scene. Moniker are currently looking for submissions for
visuals and artworks for the night.

sorry but as per usual we're advertising at the last minute!

Last month saw our first simultaneous Moniker / Cork Contemporary Projects event with the opening of 'The Eviction Show' up in Sunday's Well followed by a full house at the Infirmary for Moniker's mish mash of electro, jungle and old school rave courtesy of Man vs. Machine, Psymonok and DJ Phroog.

Moniker's MAY installment happens this Saturday 16th at The Infirmary Bar [at the side of the Mardyke complex].

The Eviction Show / Cork Contemporary Projects

Cork Contemporary Projects (CCP) are a new arts collective based in Cork city with a strong focus on collaboration between the disciplines of art, architecture and design.

As the title suggests, the venue is currently home to two members of CCP and is intended to be
renovated and leased out to new tenants. The decision to seize this transition period as an
opportunity to exhibit has been quite recent and so CCP intend for the show to be the result of an open studio, highlighting the fact that there are always opportunities to make and show work, even when you’re being evicted.

We hope you enjoy the show and thank you for your support.
